As part of the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO), EU states should reinforce their national defense forces and augment investment into their respective defense capabilities. This is to complement the roles of national armies of EU countries within NATO. Alignment and cooperation of EU states in matters of defense are the backbones of future cooperation and the precondition of succour and military assistance, when and where needed.
